Freshly picked olives at Susafa with the Madonie mountain behind

Harvest Partner · Polizzi Generosa, Sicily

Meet Susafa, our harvest partner.

A family-run estate in the Madonie hills where the Saeli-Rizzuto family has farmed olives, wheat, and vines for five generations — and where every bottle of Masseria Groves oil is pressed.

According to nature · since 1870

The Partnership

One grove. One family. One bottle.

Masseria Groves was built on a simple idea: that great olive oil comes from knowing exactly where — and who — it came from. So we partner with a single producer, press to press, season to season.

That producer is Susafa — a working farm in the heart of Sicily where the Saeli-Rizzuto family has tended the same land since 1870. No blending, no middlemen. Just their olives, their press, and your name on a tree.

The History

Five generations on the land.

Susafa began life in 1870 as a 19th-century farmhouse — a self-sufficient village that produced its own oil, wheat, wine, legumes, fruits, and vegetables. The Saeli-Rizzuto family has been its proud custodian ever since, tending 600 hectares of Sicilian farmland across five generations.

In 2008, fifth-generation owner Manfredi reimagined the old masseria as a countryside retreat, opening its doors to share the family's oldest rural traditions. The farming never stopped — the olives are still pressed on the estate today.

The Land & Harvest

Rooted in the Madonie.

The estate spreads across roughly 600 hectares in Polizzi Generosa, inside the Madonie Natural Park — a landscape of dry, golden hills, volcanic soil, and sea winds that give the oil its grassy, peppery character.

Each October through December, the family and their crew spread nets beneath the trees and harvest by hand. The olives are pressed on the estate within hours of picking — never blended, never stored.

The Oil

Pressed fresh, never aged.

Susafa's extra virgin olive oil is a fruit juice, not a pantry staple — bold, grassy, and peppery, with a golden-green hue that signals an early, careful harvest.

  • Cold-extracted within hours of the harvest
  • Unfiltered — bottled just as it leaves the press
  • Single estate, single grove, never blended
  • Organically farmed, Sicilian sun and volcanic soil
